The Chinatown Storytelling Centre 

documents and shares the cultural stories of the Chinese Canadian community as experienced and witnessed through its historic epicentre, Vancouver’s Chinatown.

Our centre celebrates Chinatown’s contributions to the development of Vancouver and highlights the roles of Chinese Canadians in the building of Canada as a nation.

We believe when we look back on stories of adversity, resilience, and triumph, we reveal our shared history. And we believe this common ground is where we can build a more inclusive society moving forward.

Judy Lam Maxwell is the female owner and operator of two Vancouver-based businesses: HISTORICAL CHINATOWN TOURS and MASTERCLASS DUMPLINGS. She has led public tours of Chinatown for over a dozen years and have given Chinese-style cooking classes for more than five years, both in-person and virtually. Besides being an expert in making dumplings and other Chinese foods, she is a world traveler and very knowledgeable about Chinatowns' in many countries.

Her business and historical research interests are closely aligned with her long-standing commitment to public service excellence and support for community affairs. For more than two decades, it has been her pleasure to serve on many boards and committees for my Chinatown community in Vancouver and across North America. Additionally, she is a third-generation Vancouverite of European and Chinese descent, and she has a Master of Arts degree in History.
